Khartoum: Rhino – The Sudanese National Human Rights Observatory condemned videos circulating on social media showing the Sudanese army recruiting a number of women to send them into battle against the Rapid Support Forces.
In a statement issued today, the Observatory expressed its “deep shock and strong condemnation of the circulating videos documenting the recruitment of civilian women into the ranks of the armed forces and their use as snipers in combat operations.”
The statement read: “This conduct constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law due to its exploitation of civilians and their direct involvement in armed conflicts, which has exposed their lives to grave danger and led to the deaths of a number of them”.
The Observatory emphasized that the deployment of civilians, particularly women, to the battlefield constitutes a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of the fundamental principles of the protection of civilians during armed conflicts.
