Watch: Sudanese army releases video of execution of RSF prisoner

Nyala: Rhino – On Monday, the Rapid Support Forces condemned what it described as a heinous crime committed by members of the army and allied militias, namely the killing of an unarmed prisoner near the Tine area in North Darfur state. In a statement, the RSF described the act as “barbaric and criminal, showing no regard for humanity or the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan, and embodying complete disregard for religious values, human norms, and international humanitarian law.”

A video circulating online showed shocking scenes of army personnel targeting the prisoner, who was handcuffed and had his limbs bound, before firing a barrage of live ammunition at him.

The statement said: “Our forces condemn this heinous crime and call on human rights and humanitarian organizations and relevant international mechanisms to quickly open an independent investigation into the circumstances of the prisoner’s killing and to condemn and hold the perpetrators accountable in accordance with international humanitarian law. Our forces also affirm that these crimes will not be subject to a statute of limitations, that the perpetrators will not escape accountability, and that they will be pursued until justice is served, ensuring that they do not go unpunished and that justice is upheld for the victims of these violations.
