Khartoum: Rhino – A meeting was held today at the IGAD headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa between IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Werekneh Gebeyehu and his team, and a delegation from the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud) led by the alliance’s president, Dr. Abdullah Hamdok.
According to a press statement published today on Facebook, the meeting witnessed a frank and transparent discussion on developments in the war in Sudan and the role expected of IGAD in facilitating a comprehensive and sustainable peace process in Sudan, through its role within the Quintet Mechanism and its coordination with the Quartet Initiative.
IGAD Executive Secretary affirmed the organization’s keenness to exert more effort to silence the guns in Sudan, stressing his agreement with what Sumoud had proposed, namely that there is no military solution to the conflict and that the best way forward is a peaceful, negotiated solution that addresses the root causes of the crisis in the country.”
