Khartoum: Rhino – A delegation from the Sumoud Alliance, including Khalid Omar, Dr. Bakri Al-Jak, and Professor Najla Karrar, met with Ambassador Thomas Scheib, Head of the Executive Office of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), in The Hague, Netherlands.
In a press statement on Monday, the coalition confirmed that the delegation discussed the need to form a committee to investigate and follow up on the Sudanese armed forces’ use of chemical weapons in several areas during the ongoing war in the country.
The delegation briefed Ambassador Scheib on documented reports supported by material evidence from various regions in Sudan, including cases of some victims who are currently undergoing treatment outside Sudan.
According to the statement, Ambassador (Thomas Scheib) promised to support the efforts of the Federal Republic of Germany within the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) regarding the use of chemical weapons, despite the procedural complications facing the organization, namely the need to obtain a sufficient majority within the Executive Council to send a field team to verify and collect evidence.
He also noted the importance of exerting pressure on the Sudanese armed forces and their militia allies not to use these weapons in the future.
