Rhino: Agencies – UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert and UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Aroldo Lazaro said in a joint statement on Sunday that conditions are “not yet ripe” for the safe return of Lebanese to southern Lebanon.

They said the timelines set under the US-brokered ceasefire agreement that halted last year’s war with Hezbollah had not been met and urged Israel and Lebanon to recommit.
The statement comes after Israeli forces killed three people and wounded 44 others trying to return to their homes in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops remain on the ground even after a deadline for their withdrawal passed on Sunday.
