TASIS Alliance: US Secretary of State’s statements reward those who wage war and obstruct peace

Khartoum: Rhino – The Sudanese Tasis Alliance expressed its regret and surprise at the statements made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “due to their inconsistency and deliberate disregard for the facts on the ground, in a manner that could be understood as clear bias towards the terrorist Islamic Movement army, the party that has continued to undermine all efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan,” according to a statement issued by the coalition on Thursday.

The statement added: “The coalition affirms to local and international public opinion that the army leadership in Port Sudan, which is under the control of the Islamic Movement/Muslim Brotherhood, is the party that has obstructed the humanitarian truce and all previous and current negotiation platforms, including the Jeddah 1 and 2, Manama, and Geneva negotiations. It has also categorically rejected all initiatives proposed for a ceasefire, insisting on expanding and prolonging the war, including statements made today by General Al-Burhan, commander of the army, in the Al-Sariha area, in which he announced his rejection of the Quartet’s proposal for a humanitarian truce).

He continued: “Mr. Rubio’s statements, in this context, are a political reward for those who ignite war and obstruct peace, and send the wrong message that encourages the advocates of war to continue it. This may undermine the neutrality of the American mediator within the Quartet mechanism and cast doubt on the positions of some countries within the Quartet itself.”

He added: “In contrast, the government of peace and the TASIS Alliance are taking practical and responsible steps to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the affected areas, provide the necessary guarantees to protect civilians, and prepare legal files to hold accountable all those involved in violations against citizens, in accordance with the principles of justice, accountability, and international human rights standards.”

The coalition concluded its statement by saying: (The Sudan Founding Alliance categorically rejects any approach based on double standards or that ignores the serious efforts made by the “Government of Peace and Unity” to bring about peace and democratic civilian transition. It calls on the international community, led by the United States, to deal with the facts objectively and responsibly, in a manner that enhances the chances of ending the war and supports the forces working sincerely for lasting peace and sustainable stability in Sudan. It renews its readiness to cooperate with all regional and international partners, placing the interests of the Sudanese people above all other considerations).
