Khartoum: Rhino – A court in Marwi has sentenced teacher Mu’tasim Mahdi to 11 years in prison on charges of “insulting the armed forces and collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces.” Mu’tasim fled Khartoum after the outbreak of war and settled in his village, Habrab al-Mahas, where he volunteered to teach children.
On January 25, armed forces raided the teacher’s residence and took him to an unknown location. His family was unable to contact or visit him until it later became clear that he was being held by military intelligence in Marwi until his sentence was handed down.
Mutasim was sentenced to prison for clearly expressing his rejection of the war and criticizing the current situation, according to sources in the region.
