Teachers’ Committee: Efforts to administer the Unified Certificate exams have been hampered

Khartoum: Rhino – The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee has reiterated its firm stance in support of students’ right to education and their right to continue their studies away from the political and military polarization imposed by the war on the country. The Sudanese secondary school exams are beginning in areas under the control of the Sudanese Founding Alliance.

In a statement, the committee explained that its position is based on its commitment to students’ interests, their future, and their right to education. This right is inherent and cannot be infringed upon or suspended due to the war. The committee also stated that education should be a unifying force in Sudanese society, rather than a tool for conflict or a means of enforcing the consequences of war and perpetuating division among the Sudanese people.

The statement read: ‘The committee believes that any party that obstructs the administration of the Sudanese Unified Secondary School Certificate exams or prevents the implementation of solutions that ensure the right of all students to sit a national exam that preserves the unity of the education system and safeguards the future of generations to come is acting contrary to the interests of students and their right to education.’

It added: ‘Thousands of students are waiting for all parties to priorities their interests over war calculations, treating education as a national issue requiring consensus rather than conflict. We are still waiting for the moment when reason prevails and wisdom is prioritized over the logic of conflict, so that education can become a means of achieving peace and rebuilding the nation rather than an additional battlefield‘.
