8 dead and dozens injured in army air strikes on two centers sheltering displaced persons in Kordofan

Khartoum: Rhino – Abu Zabad Emergency Room announced today, Saturday, that the Sudanese army’s unmanned aerial vehicles carried out an attack targeting two schools used as shelters for displaced persons in the city of Abu Zabad in West Kordofan state, killing eight civilians, including children and displaced persons, while others were seriously injured.

The chamber added in a statement that the bombing was carried out by two warplanes that dropped bombs on the Osama bin Zayd School and the Al-Wefaq School, as well as nearby houses, killing eight people. It confirmed that the attack did not target any military sites, but rather that the two schools targeted had been used as shelters for displaced persons since the outbreak of armed conflict in the country.

The statement noted that this bombing came less than a month after a previous airstrike targeted a girls’ secondary school in the same city, reflecting a recurring pattern of targeting civilians and vital facilities.

The statement described the incident as a “documented war crime.”

The Emergency Room expressed its strong condemnation of what it described as a “repeated campaign against civilians,” stressing that these attacks are not based on any military justification and constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. It called on the international community to intervene urgently to protect civilians and stop the targeting of shelters and educational facilities in conflict areas.
