International Rescue Committee provides financial aid to IDPs in Tawila, North Darfur

Tawila: Saleh Hiririn – The International Rescue Committee (IRC) on Sunday began distributing financial aid to displaced people in the town of Tawila, 60 kilometers west of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

Tawila, controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nur, is home to hundreds of thousands of people who fled El Fasher and the Zam Zam and Abushok camps.

A source at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), who preferred to remain anonymous, told Rhino that they have started distributing financial aid at 520,000 Sudanese pounds per family. He said that the organization plans to provide financial aid to more than 5,000 families, noting that the distribution of financial aid came after a field survey conducted by the organization during the past period.

The native leader Adam Issa Yahya told Rhino that the financial aid provided to the families affected by the war contributes to providing their basic needs. Yahya expressed his thanks and appreciation to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) for the assistance provided to the families.

The displaced families in the Tawila area are living under a harsh humanitarian situation, especially since most of them fled without possessions or were looted along the way.
