Khartoum: Rhino – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Sunday that it has deployed military units to secure civilians and humanitarian medical workers in Zamzam camp in North Darfur state, “after it was able to completely liberate Zamzam camp from the grip of the terrorist Islamic Movement Army and its affiliates from armed mercenary movements that were using the camp as a military barracks and civilians as human shields.”
In a statement, the RSF denounced what it described as false allegations that its elements targeted civilians inside the Zamzam camp, and called for accuracy and reliability in reporting events. She added: “The so-called Joint Force and mercenary movement elements have been using Zamzam camp as a military base and exploiting innocent civilians as human shields, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, yet the RSF managed to secure civilians during the liberation operation and did not expose them to harm.”
The statement reads: “The RSF Command emphasizes that some parties have continued to spread lies and fabrications in the context of the media war run by the Islamic Movement Army, which aims to tarnish the image of the RSF and undermine its reputation before the Sudanese public opinion and the regional and international communities. We recall that the forces of the “Establishment” coalition conducted organized voluntary evacuations of a large number of families from the city of El Fasher and the surrounding camps to safer and more stable areas and provided civilians with shelter and protection, in coordination with organizations working in the humanitarian field).
The RSF announced that it welcomes all relief organizations and agencies that have expressed their desire to respond immediately to the dire humanitarian conditions experienced by those fleeing the war, reiterating its full commitment to international humanitarian law and its constant concern to protect civilians and avoid any actions that may affect civilian facilities.
