Republican Party: Al-Burhan committed high treason by handing over Halayeb Triangle to Egypt

Khartoum: Rhino – The Republican Party condemned in the strongest terms the reports that Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan had ceded the Halayeb Triangle, Shalatin, and Abu Ramad to Egypt, describing the move as high treason and noting that it was “an unforgivable crime and a stain on the forehead of everyone who participated in it or remained silent about it.”

In a statement on Saturday, the party denounced the fact that no official denial of this concession had been issued by the de facto government, and that the denial came from the Sudanese embassy in Nigeria, rather than from the Sovereign Council or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!

The statement said: “This is both strange and reprehensible. This is a matter of sovereignty of the highest order, and any denial should come from the body that claims to be the sovereign authority in the country. What has happened is a direct violation of the country’s sovereignty, the dignity of its people, and the unity of its territory. In any case, it is high treason, for which there is no statute of limitations.”

The statement added: “Egyptian interference in Sudanese affairs, which has increased significantly and noticeably since the December 2018 revolution, according to a statement issued by the party on Saturday, describing this interference as “an attempt to revive the old Khedive colonialism in a new guise, to undermine Sudanese sovereignty and independence of decision-making, to plunder the land and other resources, and to humiliate the Sudanese people.”

It continued: “Sudan’s land is not for sale, and no illegitimate authority, such as Burhan’s, has the right to give the country’s land to foreigners in exchange for political or military support in order to remain in power. The country’s land and sovereignty are not commodities to be bargained with, and the free Sudanese people will not accept the surrender of a single inch of their soil.”

It added: “The sons and daughters of Sudan have shed their precious blood throughout history in the face of colonialism and military dictatorships, and they will not hesitate today to confront any annexation of their land, or any guardianship, domination, or disguised occupation.”

The Republican Party called on the Sudanese people and all political and social forces to be vigilant and to raise their voices against Egyptian attempts to seize the country’s land and plunder its resources, “taking advantage of the existence of an illegitimate authority that has shown a willingness to trade national constants for Egyptian support in order to remain in power.”

The party emphasized in its statement that the only way to resolve the Halayeb dispute is through international arbitration, which the Salvation Government failed to pursue, followed by the de facto government led by Burhan, until their failure and shame reached the point of ceding Halayeb to Egypt.

It added: “The only condition for creating a healthy relationship with Egypt is its respect for Sudan’s sovereignty over its territory and its independent national decision. Egypt’s exploitation of the military’s presence in power, which is an illegitimate usurpation, is reprehensible and detrimental to the future of relations between the two countries.”
