Civilians killed and wounded in army airstrikes on Hamra al-Sheikh, North Kordofan

Rhino: Agencies – On Monday, army warplanes launched new airstrikes on several areas in Hamra al-Sheikh, North Kordofan, targeting markets and civilian gathering areas, killing and wounding civilians, according to a human rights group.

The Emergency Lawyers Group said in a statement on Tuesday that an Antonov aircraft bombed Hamrat al-Sheikh market, al-Tawahin market and al-Zaraf mine using five-barrel bombs, killing two civilians and injuring five others with varying injuries.

“The injured were taken to Hamrat al-Sheikh Hospital, which suffers from a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, which threatens the lives of the wounded and makes their chances of treatment limited,” the statement added.

The shelling comes in the context of repeated air attacks since December 2023, which have not only indiscriminately targeted civilian areas, but followed a systematic approach aimed at imposing forced displacement on the population of the area, according to the statement.

“This act constitutes a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, and confirms the intention to forcibly displace the population by targeting markets, civilian gatherings and residential areas, with the aim of creating an unlivable environment and forcing people to flee,” he said.
