Fenerbahçe coach Jose Mourinho sarcastically congratulated the referee who sent him off as one of the best referees in the world, after his team drew 1-1 with Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League yesterday (Thursday), a result he sarcastically described as “a good result for his former club”.

The home side scored the equalizer through Moroccan Youssef Nasri with a header in the second half after an early goal by Christian Eriksen.

However, Mourinho was the center of attention as usual, and received a red card in the second half after a heated argument with referee Clement Turpin, who claimed he was observing his behavior, while at the same time watching the game.

The Portuguese coach told TNT Sports: “The referee told me something amazing. “He said he could see the movements inside the penalty area and my behavior on the touchline at the same time.

“I congratulate him because he is without a doubt amazing. During the game, at a hundred miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty and the other on my actions on the bench. So he is one of the best referees in the world.”

Mourinho, who was sacked in 2018, added: “I know the English media will say that United didn’t do well, but I think it would be fair to say that we played an exceptional game, and we were better than them. It’s a good result for Manchester United.”
