Khartoum: Rhino – Sources from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Tuesday that they have completed the control of Zamuz camp for displaced people, which the joint forces turned into a military base and used the displaced people residing in the camp as human shields.
The coordination of Zamzam IDP camp in El Fasher city warned of what it described as suspicious movements of the joint forces, which entered Zamzam IDP camp on November 12 last year, and built bases inside the camp, which houses thousands of civilians.
In a statement, the coordination stressed that turning the IDPs’ headquarters into a potential battlefield and using them as human shields is a blatant violation of human rights. It called on them to immediately withdraw from the camp, go to the battlefield they left behind, and not to drag the IDPs into a battle that is “not theirs” and a war they have already experienced.
The statement reads: “We emphasize that any explosion of the situation or casualties inside the camp is the responsibility of the joint forces, as these forces seek to exploit our suffering as IDPs to achieve political and military agendas. We call on the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop the transfer of the battle to Zamzam camp and to play their role in protecting IDPs”.
On December 13 of last year, the coordination revealed that during the early hours of dawn yesterday and today, the joint forces withdrew a number of tanks, combat vehicles, marching vehicles, medium and heavy weapons, and Starlink devices into the camp, and said that the joint forces used vehicles bearing the logo of the Doctors Without Borders organization to move some of the vehicles.
The coordination denounced in a statement that the joint forces built “defenses, dug trenches around the camp and deployed a number of combat vehicles,” and continued: “This information was confirmed by the Yale University Humanitarian Research Laboratory, using satellites, in their report published yesterday evening. The conspiratorial fronts affiliated with the joint, which raced to deny our previous statement, also denied international platforms.
The statement continued: “We renew our strong demand to the joint forces not to play with fire, to withdraw immediately from the camp, and not to transfer the war to the tents of the destitute displaced people, and we call on the international community and organizations working in the humanitarian field to besiege this malicious scheme, through which the joint forces aim to gain sympathy and trade in the blood of the displaced people, and we hold them fully responsible for any damage to the camp residents”.
