Press Statement Regarding the Army Commander’s Call for Political Dialogue
The Sudan Founding Alliance “Tasis” comments on the statements made by Army Commander Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan regarding the call for a comprehensive political dialogue under the pretext of completing the democratic civilian transition. This call comes after years of war ignited by the terrorist Islamic Movement, which has led to the undermining of state institutions and the deepening of the national crisis Sudan is experiencing today.
The Sudan Founding Alliance “Tasis” clearly affirms that the Sudanese crisis is no longer a crisis of government or a matter of partial political settlement, but rather a structural crisis concerning the very nature of the Sudanese state itself, and the failure of the old model of governance founded on exclusion, military hegemony, and political and cultural centralization.
Accordingly, the time for superficial dialogue has passed; repeating old plays and performances will find no audience; the policy of stalling and maneuvering will not resolve the current crisis; and any calls for dialogue that do not stem from a solid and serious foundation will contribute to prolonging the conflict. The experience of the Al-Wathba dialogue is not far behind us, and any dialogue process proposed by the army commander and the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood movement behind him will lack credibility and will neither contribute to ending the war nor constitute a genuine way out of the national crisis.
We, the Sudan Founding Alliance “Tasis,” reject any political process aimed at reproducing the old state or restoring its institutions, which have lost their political and moral legitimacy in the eyes of the Sudanese people, We affirm our full commitment to the Sudan Founding Project, which is based on building a new state founded on justice and equal citizenship, the separation of religion and state, ending the dominance of the center, and re-establishing all civil, military, and security institutions in accordance with a new social contract that reflects the will of all the peoples of Sudan.
We also affirm that genuine dialogue cannot take place under the authority of arms or the dominance of the military establishment, nor through selective arrangements that exclude the forces of revolution and genuine change, but rather through a comprehensive constitutional process that addresses the roots of the historical crisis and lays the foundation for a just and sustainable peace.
The Sudanese people, who have paid a heavy price in blood and sacrifice, will not accept a return to top-down settlement schemes or the recycling of the old elites; rather, they look forward to a new national project that establishes a state of freedom, peace, and justice—a state rebuilt for the benefit of all Sudanese without discrimination or exclusion.
