Islamic Council of South Sudan condemns the Kanabi massacres and holds the Sudanese army responsible

Rhino: Agencies – The Islamic Council of South Sudan on Wednesday condemned what it described as the brutal massacres of innocent South Sudanese civilians in Kanabi Al-Jazeera and its environs, after the Sudanese army entered the area.

Local and international reports have revealed mass killings of South Sudanese civilians in the Kanabi al-Jazeera area, where the Sudanese army is accused of carrying out brutal attacks against the residents of the area, resulting in many victims.

In a statement on Wednesday, the council emphasized that the killings were carried out in cold blood and that the victims were targeted because of their features, noting that these crimes have nothing to do with religion or human nature. It also stressed that the Sudanese army bears full responsibility for the lives lost, calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable before international justice.

The statement called on the government of the Republic of South Sudan to take urgent action to evacuate its citizens stranded in Sudan, in order to preserve their lives amid the ongoing conflict. It also called for an independent international investigation supervised by credible human rights organizations to ensure that those involved in these crimes are held accountable.
