Rhino: Agencies – US President-elect Donald Trump was sworn in on Monday to become the 47th President of the United States of America, succeeding Democrat Joe Biden. JD Vance was also sworn in as Trump’s running mate.

Trump swore on a holy book – which he inherited from his mother – to “protect the constitution”, in the ceremony that took place inside the dome of the Capitol, the same site that his supporters invaded on January 6, 2021, trying to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s victory in the 2020 elections.

Trump is expected to pardon and commute the sentences of those convicted of the January 6 attack on the Capitol. During his inauguration speech, Trump said: “We are going to build the border wall with Mexico quickly. We don’t want criminals coming into our country. The Democrats wanted the border to be open and large numbers of immigrants to come in. We will continue to drill for fossil fuels. I hoped we would have good relations between Democrats and Republicans, and I worked to make sure the inaugural address was based on unity”.
