Rhino: Agencies – French Defense and Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Licorneau said on Tuesday that France carried out missile strikes earlier this week in Syria targeting Islamic State positions.

“On Sunday, the French Air Force carried out targeted strikes on Islamic State positions in Syrian territory,” Licorneau wrote on the X platform.

The French attack follows a similar military strike by the United States in Syria, which Washington said killed two Islamic State operatives.

Syria faces an uncertain political future after HTS ousted former President Bashar al-Assad on Dec. 8.

The HTS-led blitz ended a 13-year civil war but raised a host of questions about the future of a multi-ethnic country in which foreign countries including Turkey and Russia have strong and potentially conflicting interests.
