Maresca: Chelsea star could be out for the rest of the season

Rhino: Agencies – Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has said that one of his players could miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring tear, although initial expectations were for a short absence.

The 24-year-old French defender, Wesley Fofana, has not played since he was substituted in the second half of Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Dec. 1.
During a press conference on Friday, Maresca said: “Unfortunately, he (Fofana) could miss the whole season. “We don’t know exactly, but he will definitely be out for a long time.

Fofana, who joined Chelsea from Leicester City for £75 million, has been plagued by injuries. Last season, he missed the majority of games with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and before that he faced fitness issues during his time with Leicester City.

Commenting on the loss of Fofana, Maresca said: “I adore Wesley. “He’s the kind of defender who gives you a chance to press, to play in an attacking way. “With him and Benoit (Badiachele) out, we are trying to find alternatives. Wesley’s absence is a big loss.”
