UN: Rhino – The UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, expressed his hope that 2025 will bring peace to the Sudanese people, warning that the absence of a peaceful solution to the war will have serious repercussions for the country and the entire region.
In an exclusive interview with UN News, Mr. Lamamra said he cannot succumb to the idea that “the second anniversary of the conflict will come in April without all concerned – including all influential global and regional actors – exerting extraordinary collective pressure on the belligerents and their supporters to give peace a real chance.”
He emphasized that such pressure should be directed at “foreign actors who provide weapons and equipment that fuel the military illusions and miscalculations of the parties, at the expense of the wisdom and value of a peaceful solution that preserves the unity and territorial integrity as well as the well-being of Sudan and its people.”
The UN official stressed the organization’s strong will to spare no effort in helping the Sudanese people end their suffering and achieve stability, security, democratic governance and development.
