Rhino: Agencies – Current Germany captain Joshua Kimmich has revealed the loss that kept him up at night.
Kimmich wrote in an article for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntag Zeitung on Sunday: “I rarely miss sleep, but it happened to me last summer the night after we lost to Spain at Euro 2024, it was the most emotional game I’ve ever played.”
The German national team lost in the quarterfinals to Spain, who later won the European title last July, after a thrilling match that went into extra time amidst a furore over a handball call against Spain’s Marc Cucuria.
“We did well and did everything we could, but we said goodbye at home and in front of our fans, and we had to deal with this sad reality,” Kimmich said.
“What I experienced that night with the disappointment of the loss, the lack of sleep and the silence in the camp made me realize that it wasn’t just about losing a game.”
