Grossi visits two nuclear sites in Iran

Rhino: Agencies – International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi visited two nuclear sites in Iran on Friday as part of a visit to the country, ahead of an expected European diplomatic push on Tehran’s nuclear activities before Donald Trump returns to the White House.

During the visit, Iran’s foreign minister told Grossi that Tehran is ready to resolve outstanding disputes over its nuclear program but will not succumb to pressure.

State media reported that Grossi visited the Natanz nuclear plant and the Fordow enrichment site dug into a mountain about 100 kilometers south of the capital Tehran but gave no further details.

“The ball is now in the court of the EU/European Troika,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi wrote on X after talks in Tehran with Grossi on Thursday, referring to the European trio of France, Germany and Britain representing the West alongside the United States in the nuclear talks.

“We are ready to negotiate on the basis of our national interest and inalienable rights, but we are not ready to negotiate under pressure and intimidation,” Araqchi said.

Tehran is currently enriching uranium to a purity of 60 percent, which is close to the 90 percent purity required to make an atomic bomb. Tehran says its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes.
