TAQADDOM condemns the massacre of civilians in Nyala, South Darfur

Khartoum: Rhino – The Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddam) condemned today, Sunday, what it described as the “horrible massacre” that took place in the city of Nyala, following an aerial bombardment by the armed forces that targeted the market of Bilil locality and a number of residential neighborhoods, including Riyadh and Khartoum, on Saturday afternoon, November 9, resulting in dozens of civilian victims, including women and children, and severe injuries, in addition to the destruction of property and vital facilities.

This heinous crime comes in the context of escalating violence and targeting innocent civilians, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and war crimes added to the record of horrific violations that our people have suffered since the outbreak of the war on April 15.

In a statement on Sunday, the coordination expressed its deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Nyala and called on the parties to the conflict to immediately cease all military actions in civilian areas, respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians. It emphasized the need to secure safe corridors to evacuate civilians from conflict areas, relocate them to safer areas, and ensure the provision of urgent humanitarian care to them.

The coordination also calls on the international community and regional and international organizations to take urgent action to stop these tragedies, hold those responsible accountable, and work to end the devastating war through peaceful solutions that ensure the restoration of security and stability in Sudan.

Taqaddam reiterated its firm position on the need to achieve comprehensive peace in Sudan through concerted national and international efforts to ensure the rights of Sudanese people to live in dignity and safety.
