Rhino: Agencies – Minni Arko Minawi minimized the amendments made by army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to give him wide powers in preparation for the formation of a civilian government.
Minawi said: “It is not important to form a transitional government at the moment,” he said, adding that the top priority should be given to the ongoing military operations.
In an interview with Sudan Tribune, he said that any government formed in light of the current war will lack the necessary powers to run the country effectively.
Minawi said that the formation of a government would undoubtedly be “wingless,” as he put it. He described the recent constitutional amendments as a “temporary situation,” saying: “These amendments do not constitute or establish a permanent situation, they are just temporary arrangements.”
The amendments to the constitutional document also included increasing military representation in the Sovereignty Council, with the military appointing six of the 11 members, while the peace forces nominate three, and extending the term of the army commander-in-chief as head of the Sovereignty Council (head of state) for 39 months.
