West Kordofan: Rhino

The death toll from the cholera outbreak in the Foga administrative district of the Nihood locality in West Kordofan state has risen to more than 75, while the number of cases has exceeded 120, according to health workers who spoke to Radio Dabanga from West Kordofan.

According to these sources, the disease has spread from the Foga area to other areas, including Al-Kabara, Al-Qusa, and Al-Raqeeq, with new cases emerging in the Al-Firdous area of the Lagawa locality in West Kordofan.

The cholera outbreak in these areas coincides with a shortage of intravenous fluids and essential medications, as well as a lack of medical staff, prompting residents to turn to traditional remedies and herbal treatments to combat the disease.

She confirmed that the city’s health facilities are no longer able to accommodate the growing number of patients, noting that each patient requires large quantities of intravenous fluids amid the scarcity of medical supplies.

Sources warned of the epidemic spreading to villages and neighboring areas linked to Foga’s markets, as new cases continue to be reported daily.

The city’s residents appealed to the Federal Ministry of Health and to humanitarian, regional, and international organizations to intervene urgently to provide medicines, intravenous fluids, and medical personnel, and to contain the spread of the epidemic before the humanitarian crisis worsens.

Sources reported that over the past few months, the city of Foga has received large numbers of displaced people fleeing the city of Al-Nahud and other areas following the escalation of security incidents, providing them with shelter in homes, schools, mosques, and shelters.”
