Two peacekeepers injured in strike in Lebanon

RINO: Agencies – Two U.N. peacekeepers were wounded on Friday in an Israeli strike near their watchtower in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said, as explosions rocked the peacekeepers’ main base in the area for the second time in 48 hours amid clashes between Israeli forces and the Hezbollah group.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Western countries condemned the attacks. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said in a statement that this was a “dangerous development,” adding that the security of UN force personnel and property must be guaranteed.

France summoned the Israeli ambassador. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said he urged his Israeli counterpart to ensure the safety of UNIFIL troops in Lebanon. Russia said it was “outraged” and called on Israel to refrain from “hostile actions” against the peacekeepers.

In Gaza, medics told Reuters that 13 Palestinians were killed on Friday in Israeli strikes on a house in Jabaliya, where Doctors Without Borders said thousands were trapped a week after Israel launched an offensive there aimed at preventing Hamas fighters from regrouping.
