Nuba Mountains Lawyers Union condemns the arrest of IDPs by military intelligence in RiverNile

Khartoum: Rhino – The Nuba Mountains Lawyers Union revealed on Friday the arrest of a number of people from the region, who were coming from the “Ezbah” neighborhood in Khartoum Bahri, after fleeing from the warring parties in Bahri, where dozens of citizens were killed, according to the union.

The Union condemned the incident, describing it as a racist approach and behavior against the people of the Nuba Mountains, and added: “This behavior is not new or strange to the Sudanese state, we have been repeating it over and over again, and this pattern confirms beyond any doubt that the Sudanese state has not yet recovered despite this grinding war, one of the main reasons for which is this racism that has tasted the homeland.”

The Union reported in a statement on Friday that 25 women and 54 children were arrested, including 16 injured detainees, despite their health condition – very critical – while the rest of the families are in the courtyard of Christ Church in Shinde, in very bad humanitarian conditions, including the elderly, children and the sick. The detained IDPs are of the Christian faith and belong to the Ezaba Church in Khartoum Bahri.

The union held the governor of River Nile state, the state security committee, and the military intelligence responsible for what happened and what will happen to the detainees and their families from the Nuba Mountains, demanding the immediate release of detainees who spent more than 8 days in detention, without any conditions, within a maximum time period of 24 hours, as well as the deportation of all detainees to wherever they want to go, in any of the safe states of Sudan.

The statement reads: “We remind the responsible authorities that freedom of movement or freedom of travel is one of the human rights respected by the constitution, international law, and Sudanese law itself, as it stipulates illegal detention, which means detention outside the law, as international laws and norms stipulate it.

The statement continued: “We are very concerned and nervous in the Nuba Mountains Lawyers Union about the repeated mistakes by the Sudanese military intelligence, at a time when our sons of the Nuba Mountains are in the front lines of the so-called battles of dignity, they are stabbed and betrayed from behind by the military intelligence that belongs to the Sudanese armed forces, so that families, women, men, youth and children are arrested and beaten in front of their children, while carrying weapons to defend the city of Shendi.

The Union listed the names of the detainees as follows
