UN: Sudan faces world’s largest internal displacement crisis

Rhino: Agencies – Sudan is facing the largest internal displacement crisis in the world, according to a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Sunday, noting that more than 3 million children have been displaced inside and outside Sudan since the beginning of the conflict.

The report added that one in three in Sudan suffers from severe food insecurity.

According to the report, published on the OCHA website, the current wave of violence and insecurity has resulted in high numbers of civilian casualties, extensive damage to vital infrastructure and facilities, as well as widespread displacement.

The report states: “More than 7.4 million people have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety inside and outside Sudan, with 3.8 million internally displaced from previous conflicts. Sudan is currently facing the world’s largest internal displacement crisis and the most significant child displacement crisis.”

The report noted that the already fragile health system is in dire straits, with a rising risk of disease outbreaks, including cholera, as well as dengue, measles and malaria.
