Rhino: Agencies – Retired Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has revealed that he came close to moving to the Premier League before playing for Real Madrid. “At an early stage I reached an agreement in 2014, before I signed for Real Madrid, to move to Manchester United,” Kroos said in statements quoted by the German newspaper ‘Bild’. “But then David Moyes was sacked and Louis van Gaal was appointed, and I turned down the offer with thanks.” Kroos had worked under Van Gaal at Bayern Munich, and although he started, he did not play in his preferred position. “Moyes came to me privately and the contract was finalized, but after he was sacked and Van Gaal took over, things became complicated, United didn’t contact me for a while and doubts began to arise.” Kroos continued: “Then the World Cup started and (Carlo) Ancelotti contacted me and the matter was resolved.”
