Ankara to present evidence of Turkish-American murder to two international tribunals

Rhino: Agencies – Ankara will submit evidence that Israel killed a Turkish-American woman in the West Bank this month to the United Nations Security Council, the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç said on Monday.

The activist, Ayşe Nur Özge Ege, was killed on Sept. 6 while taking part in a protest against settlement expansion in the West Bank during the Gaza war.

Israel acknowledged that its forces shot Aisha during a demonstration that saw violence, but said it was unintentional.

Escalating attacks by settlers on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank have angered Israel’s allies in the West. The war in Gaza has also heightened tensions in the region.

Turkey said this month that it had opened an investigation into Aisha’s killing and would seek international arrest warrants. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey would go to the International Court of Justice to take up the case.

The killing of Aisha has further strained relations between Israel and its main ally the United States, which is outraged by an increase in attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and is demanding a swift investigation into the incident.

Washington has said that Aisha’s killing is unacceptable and that Israel must ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
