Rhino: Agencies – The executive committee of the German Football Association (DFB) decided after a meeting in Frankfurt on Friday to bid to host the UEFA Women’s European Championship in 2029.
Germany will submit its interest in organizing the tournament to UEFA on Tuesday, having hosted the Women’s Euros in 1989 and 2001.
Bernd Neundorf, president of the DFB, said: “The sustainable development of women in football and women’s football is a priority within the DFB. “Bidding for Euro 2029 is a pioneering project for us and will give us an extra boost in these areas.
UEFA will make its decision in December. Other potential candidates include Portugal and a joint bid by Denmark and Sweden.
Germany recently failed in its bid to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027, which was awarded to Brazil.
In the summer, Germany organized the Euro 2024 men’s tournament.
Heike Ullrich, general secretary of the Bundesliga, said: “We are looking forward to the application process. “This year’s Men’s Euros showed that we are good hosts and can be trusted to organize such a major sporting event,” said Heike Ullrich, general secretary of the Bundesliga.
