Rhino: Agencies – The Arab League called for funding an urgent humanitarian aid plan for Sudan. It expressed its readiness to participate in “any good offices that would end the state of civil strife” that has been going on in the country for more than a year, according to an official statement on Friday. During his participation in a meeting on “humanitarian response in Sudan,” held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki expressed the Arab League’s readiness to coordinate and cooperate on the fastest and best ways and mechanisms to end the state of civil strife, preserve the country’s national institutions and capabilities, and support the restoration of peace and security in Sudan. Zaki stressed that the deteriorating humanitarian situation, the increasing threats of famine and food insecurity, and the scarcity of life-saving medicines require urgent financial support to finance urgent and short-term coordinated plans to supply food aid, restore livelihoods, and save the agricultural season.
