Rhino: Agencies – Monaco inflicted the first loss of the season on an undermanned Barcelona when they beat them 2-1 on Thursday at the Stade Louis II in the Principality in the first round of the new-look Champions League competition.
Magnus Aglioch scored in the 16th minute (16) and George Elenekhina in the 72nd minute of the match, while Lamine Yamal scored in the 28th minute for Barcelona, who played with ten men since the tenth minute after the expulsion of his defender Eric Garcia.
This is Barcelona’s first loss under new German coach Hansi Fleck after five wins in five league games.
On the other hand, Monaco won its fourth victory in all competitions this season, maintaining its unbeaten record after three wins and a draw in the league.
The principality team also achieved its first victory over the Catalan club in three meetings between them in the prestigious continental competition, after two losses in the group stage in the 1993-1994 season, the first 2-0 in Barcelona, and the second 1-0 in Monaco.
