Renewed fighting in Ethiopia near transit camp for Sudanese refugees

Rhino: Agencies – Sudanese refugees at the Transit border camp in Ethiopia reported on Friday renewed clashes between the Ethiopian army and local militias near the camp.
Radio Dabanga quoted Malik Abdulsalam – one of the refugees – as saying that the sounds of guns and clashes are still audible, which raises concern among the refugees who have not yet been evacuated out of Ethiopia, or to a safe area.
After a temporary truce. On Thursday, UNHCR staff were able to access the Transit camp and distribute some aid, consisting of biscuits, without providing full food rations.
Around 2,000 Sudanese refugees are residing in Transit, along with other nationalities from South Sudan and Eritrea.
More than 3,000 Sudanese refugees fled the Olalla forests on August 8 due to insecurity and walked on foot to the border registration point in Metema to save their lives. People with special needs – including children, pregnant and lactating women – traveled about 80 kilometers on foot before reaching the border point, and faced great hardships during their journey, including the cold and bee stings that almost killed them.
