Rhino: Agencies – Spain and England are chasing a major title that has eluded them for many years, when they face off on Sunday, 14 July, at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin in the final of the 17th edition of the European Football Cup.
England have not won a trophy in 58 years, while Spain have not been on the podium for 12 years.
England’s only title is the 1966 World Cup, while Spain’s last was the 2012 UEFA European Championship, so Sunday will be an important date for both teams to end a long hiatus.
This will be England’s second consecutive appearance in a European Championship final after Italy beat them on penalties in the previous final at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium three years ago, but it will be England’s first appearance in a major tournament away from home.
“There’s one game left to make history, it’s been a tough run, but there’s one game left, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, penalty shootout, whatever it takes we’ll be there, I’m looking forward to it,” Kane – who has yet to win a trophy in his career – told ATV.
On Sunday, Spain will be hoping to return to the podium after a 12-year absence, as well as tying the record for the number of European Cup titles currently shared with Germany.
Spain have won the European Championship three times (1964, 2008 and 2012), the 2010 World Cup and last year’s UEFA Nations League.
