UN mission in Libya confirms progress in resolving central bank crisis

UNITED NATIONS: Rhino – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) confirmed on Thursday that progress has been made on the crisis surrounding the country’s central bank.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric made the announcement during his daily press briefing in New York, telling reporters that the UN political mission hosted a meeting yesterday and today “in which participants from the House of Representatives and the High Council of State on the one hand and a representative of the Presidential Council on the other agreed to take steps leading to the appointment of a new governor and board of directors for the Central Bank.”

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo ended her visit to Libya yesterday. In all her meetings, Ms. DiCarlo reaffirmed the Organization’s commitment to stand by the Libyan people in their efforts to overcome years of conflict and achieve lasting and sustainable peace.
