Security Council votes unanimously to extend sanctions on Sudan

Rhino: Agencies – The UN Security Council on Wednesday voted unanimously to extend sanctions on Sudan and prevent arms payments, in a session held to discuss the situation in the country where the two parties to the conflict, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support, have been fighting a war since April last year.
The British representative emphasized the importance of the ban on arms payments to Darfur, stressing that the decision came to protect civilians, while the United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, emphasized that the parties to the war are ignoring international law, as the battles between the army and the Rapid Support continue in El Fasher and other cities.
The Sudanese army’s warplanes intensified raids on the city of El Fasher, other cities of North Dafur state, and the roads connecting its outskirts. Amid escalating UN and international calls to end the war in Sudan, in light of a humanitarian disaster that has begun to push millions to starvation and death due to lack of food due to the fighting that has spread to 13 out of 18 states.
