Security Council votes Wednesday on a draft resolution to extend sanctions on Sudan

Rhino: Agencies – The UN Security Council will vote on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) on a draft resolution to extend the 1591 sanctions regime on Sudan, which expires on September 12.
Ambassador Jungkook Hwang (Republic of Korea), Chair of the Sudan Sanctions Committee under Resolution 1591, is expected to brief the Council also on Wednesday on the work of the Committee.
The Security Council will hold an open debate on peacekeeping reform pursuant to Resolution 2378 of September 20, 2017. Briefings are expected from Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix; Comfort Ero, President and CEO of the International Crisis Group; and Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, President and CEO of the International Peace Institute.
