Rhino: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Port Sudan Authority attacked the United Nations fact-finding mission in Sudan, saying it rejects the mission’s recommendations completely, because it lacks professionalism and independence and is a political rather than a legal body, according to a statement.

The ministry said in a statement that the call for the formation of a force to protect civilians in Sudan is nothing more than a wish of Sudan’s enemies and will not materialize.

The UN fact-finding mission in Sudan called for the formation of a UN force to protect civilians in Sudan from violations of the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The statement stated that the recommendations made by the mission exceed the limits of its mandate and are in line with moves in the Security Council by well-known international powers that have been at the forefront of hostile positions against Sudan.

The statement pointed out that the mission resorted to propaganda work before the start of the Human Rights Council deliberations in order to influence the positions of member states to achieve certain political goals and to extend the mission’s work.

The statement added: “The report claimed that the conflict has spread to 14 out of 18 states, yet it called for an arms embargo to include the Sudanese Armed Forces, which are confronting this rebellion and defending citizens in the face of these crimes, while calling for the formation of an international force to protect civilians.

He continued: “Recommending an arms embargo on the national army, which is carrying out its constitutional and moral role in protecting the country and its people, in line with international law, and entrusting the task of protecting civilians to an international force that does not know when it will be formed, whether it will be sufficient to cover 14 states, and whether it will be covered by the arms embargo called for by the mission in a clear violation of its mandate and authority.
