Sudan Liberation Movement – Transitional Council condemns the army’s bombing of areas under its control

Rhino: Agencies – The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army – Transitional Council condemned on Thursday the bombing by the army’s warplanes of the Korma area under the movement’s control with incendiary barrels on Wednesday, describing the attack as barbaric, treacherous and cowardly targeting.
In a statement on Thursday, the movement warned the army leadership against the consequences of widening the circle of the conflict and introducing other parties that remained committed to the principle of neutrality and the option of a peaceful solution to preserve the unity of Sudan’s land and people, and to stop the bloodshed, adding: ‘The barbaric targeting of civilians by the army air force brings to mind the scenes of genocide that the Darfur region has experienced since 2003.’
The SPLM controls the Korma area, which is inhabited by a number of citizens from the area, in addition to old IDPs from Salik camp and new IDPs who fled from El Fasher due to the ongoing battles between the army and the RSF.
In its statement, the movement questioned the purpose of bombing Korma, which is a populated area and is considered one of the important agricultural areas in North Darfur state, which is not a conflict zone.
‘We renew our appeal to the international community to urgently intervene to protect civilians and impose a ban on warplanes in Sudan, because of the serious damage they inflict on civilians, as happened in El Fasher, El Diein, Zalingei, Mellit, Kutum, Kabkabiya and other areas in Darfur and the rest of Sudan,’ the statement said.
