General Intelligence threatens to prevent a US organization from supporting a vital hospital in Sudan

Rhino: The General Intelligence Service (GIS) in Abu Jubaiha, South Kordofan, threatened to prevent the city’s hospital from receiving support from the Sudanese Doctors Association in America, known as SABA, unless the association’s coordinator in Abu Jubaiha is replaced.

According to Darfur24 news website, citing medical sources, the General Intelligence Service Summoned Dr Ali Bashir, a member of the preliminary committee of the Sudanese Doctors Syndicate and coordinator of SABA in Abu Jubaiha, and questioned him for two weeks, where he was threatened with stopping the support provided by SABA to Abu Jubaiha Hospital and its medical staff and employees.

SABA had launched a humanitarian initiative to support a number of hospitals in Sudan, including Abu Jubaiha Hospital, by providing necessary medical equipment and incentivizing medical staff working in difficult and challenging conditions resulting from the war.

Medical sources at Abu Jubaiha Hospital said that SABA’s support to the hospital is vital, especially in light of the war and the difficult conditions the country is going through.

The sources added that ‘the absence of the state’s role in providing basic medical services made external initiatives, such as SABA’s support, an absolute necessity to ensure the continued provision of health services in the affected areas, but the intervention of the General Intelligence Service and its threat to stop this support raised great concern, as it was seen as a lifeline for Abu Jubaiha Hospital.’

The sources emphasized that citizens in Abu Jubaiha are in dire need of this support, which has made the level of health services improve in the city, which already suffers from a severe shortage of medical staff, noting that ‘if the support is stopped, the security service in Abu Jubaiha bears a great responsibility towards the citizens.’

The sources emphasized that the intervention of the General Intelligence Service and its threat to stop supporting SABA could put Abu Jubaiha Hospital and citizens in a critical situation, raising questions about the future of health services in the city.

‘In light of the ongoing war and the absence of the state, such humanitarian initiatives have become essential to preserve the lives of citizens, and stopping them may exacerbate the health crisis in the area,’ the sources added.
