The spread of military barracks inside neighborhoods threatens El Fasher citizens lives

Rhino: Agencies – Citizens in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, complained on Tuesday about the spread of military barracks inside residential neighborhoods, calling on the army and allied armed movements to get out of the middle of civilians.

“Darfur24” website quoted citizens as saying that the Sudanese army and the joint force have taken some houses and service facilities inside residential neighborhoods as headquarters for their members.

“H.E.”, a resident of the first class, told ‘Darfur24’ that the presence of military barracks inside residential neighborhoods has harmed the security of citizens more than it has benefited them.

He pointed out that the artillery shelling now threatens the lives of residents more than the soldiers, who use houses and service facilities as their headquarters.

The proliferation of military barracks and outposts in the middle of residential neighborhoods has caused a security vacuum that has resulted in random shootings, assaults on citizens and thefts, he said.

In the same context, a family member at the shelter for displaced people at the Union High School for Girls said that their children’s lives are in danger due to the presence of armed movement outposts in front of the shelter.

“A.Y.,” a resident of Abu Shouk al-Halla neighborhood, complained about the continuous artillery shelling on the neighborhood, due to the presence of the armies coming from Zalingei and Al Diein and some armed movement forces inside the neighborhood’s schools, which have become their headquarters.

He added that citizens are now paying the price for allowing these forces to be in their midst, noting that the destruction of the South Desert College in the shelling the day before yesterday was due to it being used as a headquarters for a military force.

He called on the 6th Infantry Division Command to look into the presence of military barracks and outposts inside residential neighborhoods in El Fasher.
