Khartoum: Rhino – South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation summoned on Wednesday Sudan’s ambassador in Juba, Essam Mohamed Hassan Karrar, and expressed its deep concern over the recent events that “followed the retaking of Wud Madani by the Sudanese Armed Forces.”
“We have received a comprehensive report from our embassy in Port Sudan, detailing the unfortunate events that led to the loss of lives among our innocent citizens, who do not hold foreign nationalities and do not have the status of combatants,” the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
During the discussions, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador John Samuel Bogo, expressed his deep concern over these unfortunate developments. He urged the Government of Sudan to take immediate and effective measures to safeguard the rights and dignity of all foreign nationals, especially South Sudanese nationals who are currently affected by the ongoing crisis in Wad Madani and other parts of Sudan, according to the statement.
It called on the ministry to ensure the immediate cessation of acts that endanger lives, provide unfettered access to consular services for its nationals, as well as conduct a thorough investigation into the reported incidents and hold perpetrators accountable, while informing the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the results of the investigation and any measures taken in response.
