Cairo tripartite meeting with Port Sudan government delegation cancelled due to breach of protocol

Khartoum: Rhino – A planned tripartite meeting between the Egyptian government and the US envoy with a delegation from the Port Sudan government was cancelled on Wednesday due to the latter’s breach of protocol, according to US envoy Tom Brillo.
‘As part of our ongoing close partnership with Egypt in trying to save lives in Sudan, I appreciate the opportunity to meet with President Sisi, Foreign Minister Abdel Ati, and other government leaders,’ Brillo wrote on his personal X account on Wednesday.
‘The Egyptian government had also scheduled a meeting with a delegation from Port Sudan, but we were told that the meeting would be cancelled after the delegation violated protocols.
Last Sunday, the Port Sudan government announced that it was in contact with the US government, represented by the US envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, and the Egyptian government to discuss mechanisms to implement the Jeddah Agreement, signed between the army and the RSF on 11 May last year.
The Sovereignty Council’s media announced on its official Facebook page at the time that the government intends to send an ‘official delegation’ to the Egyptian capital Cairo to hold a meeting to discuss the government’s vision for the implementation of the Jeddah Agreement, based on an ‘American Egyptian’ request.
