RSF: Adré border crossing is under our control and the entry of aid through it is not subject to Al-Burhan’s approval or rejection

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Friday that the Adré border crossing with neighboring Chad has been under its full control since the first day of the war, and therefore the entry of humanitarian aid through it is not subject to the approval or rejection of army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

The RSF downplayed the importance of the Sudanese army’s decision to open the border crossing for three months, saying in a statement on Friday: ‘The Adré border crossing is completely under our control, so facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid to our people through it continues and will continue, and issuing a decision on a crossing it does not control will not change the reality.

The RSF welcomed all international efforts to deliver relief to all Sudanese, reiterating its commitment to cooperate with organizations and parties wishing to provide relief to those in need, as well as providing protection for humanitarian crews, in coordination with the Sudanese Relief and Humanitarian Operations Agency.

The statement said: ‘Our hands will remain extended to coordinate with UN agencies and organizations and national organizations to bring in humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of our people, and there is no room for any party to use our humanitarian obligations as a pretext to achieve political goals that serve their war agenda.

He continued: ‘Based on our stated positions and our previous and consistent pledges to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in the areas controlled by the RSF, and to confirm our readiness to continue facilitating the passage of aid and relief convoys through the Dibba crossing, we would like to confirm that the arrival of our delegation to Geneva came based on Our moral obligation towards our people and not to achieve any political gains.

The statement added: ‘We renew our commitment in the RSF to facilitate the passage of humanitarian convoys and their operations and ensure their protection, in accordance with international humanitarian law. We also appreciate the role of the international community and the United Nations for their interest and endeavor in addressing and ending the crisis in Sudan and providing urgent humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.
