New York Times: Sudan’s military blocks aid despite looming threat of famine

Rhino: Agencies – As Sudan teeters on the brink of famine, Sudan’s armed forces are preventing the United Nations from delivering vital food aid through key border crossings, the New York Times said on Thursday.

‘This has cut off aid to hundreds of thousands amid a devastating civil war. Experts warn that the situation could lead to one of the worst famines in decades.

The risk of famine is most acute in Darfur, where 440,000 people are already on the brink of starvation. Despite urgent appeals, the Sudanese army continues to block UN convoys at Adré crossing, disrupting the large-scale aid efforts needed to save lives.

The US and international aid organizations have called for immediate action as Sudan faces imminent famine. With the Sudanese military blocking UN aid at the Adri crossing, the situation is getting worse by the day, putting the lives of up to 2.5 million people at risk by the end of 2024.
