Blinken discusses with his Turkish counterpart to stop violence in Sudan

Rhino: Agencies – The US State Department revealed that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed on Monday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan the need to stop the escalation of violence in Sudan and the urgent need for the participation of both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the upcoming talks, scheduled for 14 August in Switzerland.
In a statement, the ministry said the two sides discussed the deteriorating situation in Sudan, where ongoing clashes between the army and the RSF have led to a large number of civilian casualties and widespread displacement of the population. Secretary Blinken emphasized the US commitment to achieving a comprehensive cessation of the violence that has brought the country to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.
The dialogue comes on the heels of the international community’s efforts to broker peace in Sudan, despite the government’s refusal to participate in the Geneva negotiations, which hinders the success of the process.
While expressing appreciation for Turkey’s role in regional stabilization, particularly the mediation between Ethiopia and Somalia, Blinken said the US, along with other international partners, continues to press for a unified approach to ending the violence in Sudan and ensuring that all key parties participate in the peace process.
As the 14 August talks approach, the international community is watching with caution, hoping that these negotiations will be a turning point in the Sudanese conflict and pave the way for long-term stability in the region.
