Juba: Sudanese warplanes bombed targets inside South Sudan

Rhino: Agencies – Sudanese warplanes violated South Sudan’s airspace on Tuesday and bombed the town of Khor Tombak in Upper Nile state, killing two civilians and injuring others, according to local officials.

The civilians were killed while working on their farms and on their way to the market and aid distribution center, Maban County Commissioner Peter Alberto told South Sudan’s national television. The attacks caused the destruction of houses and the death of livestock.

“The attack killed two civilians who were working on their farm and injured others,” he said.

Alberto did not provide details on what might have caused the attack but confirmed that he had informed the state governor.

The spokesperson for the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces, Major General Lul Ruai Koang, described the attack as unjustified and said the military leadership was aware of the incident.

Kwang confirmed that the non-aggression agreement signed in 2012 between Sudan and South Sudan is still in force.

“The agreement is still in force, and we have not crossed our borders with Sudan,” he added.

South Sudan, which has no maritime access, seized three-quarters of the oil at independence in 2011, but the oil is transported by pipeline through Sudan, which controls the export ports.

There has been no statement from the Sudanese military on the matter.
