SPLM: The sale of South Kordofan’s share of aid in Port Sudan led to deterioration of the humanitarian situation

Rhino: Agencies – The spokesman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) announced a significant deterioration in the humanitarian conditions of the displaced people in the areas controlled by the movement, amid increasing cases of malnutrition among children.

“Darfur24” website quoted the movement’s spokesman, “Gatigo Amoja Dalman”, as saying that the displaced people who fled to the movement’s control areas due to the fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, are suffering from difficult humanitarian conditions in light of the acute shortage of foodstuffs and the weak response of international organizations.

The number of IDPs in the Nuba Mountains region has reached 724,962, he said, while 55,000 people have arrived in areas controlled by the movement in the Blue Nile region.

“These displaced people were hosted in specialised camps, but the response of aid agencies was minimal, which led to a severe shortage of food and an increase in malnutrition cases, especially among children, amid high mortality rates,” he said.

Dalman noted that the civilian authority of the new Sudan has given IDPs sites for housing and agricultural areas, but the scarcity of seeds and the lack of means of production, in addition to the difficult health and psychological conditions, make it difficult to benefit from these agricultural lands, stressing that the humanitarian crisis will continue to worsen, unless UN agencies intervene urgently.

Dalman addressed the situation in “Anjamena market” in “Abu Zabad” locality in North Kordofan state, which was the only outlet for foodstuffs to reach the cities of South Kordofan before it was closed, stressing that it was the army that closed the market to prevent citizens in SPLM-controlled areas from benefiting from it, denying any connection between the movement and the closure of the market.

He added that the situation in Dilling is due to the sale of South Kordofan state’s share of humanitarian aid in Port Sudan and the use of the proceeds to support the mobilization committees, pointing out that the SPLM does not have a presence along the road from Port Sudan to Dilling.

Dalman explained that the latest round of negotiations on the humanitarian file in Juba saw the SPLM delegation submit three practical proposals for the delivery of aid, but the army rejected all of them, which prompted the South Sudanese mediation to suspend the talks for further consultation, following the army’s intransigence.
